8 Days Cliffs, Lemons and Limoncello — Amalfi Coast
Everyone warns you about the driving — they're right, skip the rental car. Buses and boats get you everywhere and you actually get to look up instead of at the road. Do the hike on Day 2 before it gets hot, and don't skip the lemon grove tour, it sounds touristy but it isn't.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Positano Boats
Just walked down toward the water and let the stairs decide the route. Every turn is a postcard, no exaggeration.
Roovio
A historic hire boat and luxury charter company founded in 2005 by local Positano entrepreneurs, offering private and group tours around the Amalfi Coast and Capri. Guests consistently praise the skippers' local knowledge and hospitality, with drinks, snacks, snorkel gear, and floating tubes provided on board, and captains happy to stop for multiple swim breaks. Solid pick for a full or half-day coastal cruise straight from Positano's pier.
Had an unforgettable day out on our boat tour from Amalfi. Our captain Massimo was brilliant - attentive, fun, and he made the trip very memorable. We only had 8 people on our boat which gave us lots of space, and it felt very private. Beautiful views and great snorkeling spots. It was a good way to see the coast, as well as Positano, without lots of crowds. We booked directly with Positano Boats - top tip is to book directly on their site rather than via Viator etc so they receive the full amount and don't have commission going to a third party. Highly recommend!
It was a fantastic experience with them. We had 90 minutes boat ride with Frank and he was awesome. We also left our caps on the boat and got it back next day.
The place is heavenly stunning, one of the most beautiful places i've ever visited.
Beautiful place. Crowded, but also overcrowded with people like me. Tourists. It couldn't be more perfect.
The beautiful Amalfi Coast
Marina Grande
Rented two chairs, did nothing, watched the ferries come and go. Sometimes that's the whole plan.
Roovio
The main port of Capri — where all ferries, hydrofoils, and boat tours dock, and where the funicular takes you up to Capri Town. More than just a transportation hub, it's also a great place to watch the world go by, with dozens of bars and restaurants facing out to sea. The beach itself is functional rather than special — it's mainly for getting on and off ferries and boats, small and far from private. Expect crowds, especially in peak season, but it's the natural starting point for any Capri da
Great location and views! Great service! And the restaurant is very clean! The staff is very friendly! The place is a bit pricey but worth the price, since everything was pomade to perfection! 95% of all the pasta dishes are with seafood, and they all taste delicious! I would recommend!
We went to another birthday dinner and ordered the chef’s tasting menu. The food was interesting — by the third course I was already full, and after that we just tasted the dishes, which maybe upset the staff 😁 but we simply couldn’t eat more. I can’t say I experienced any “wow” flavors, but it was still interesting to visit a place that so many celebrities have been to. The staff seemed a bit dismissive — kind of like in a luxury boutique. Maybe it’s part of the image. Overall, solid 4 out of 5.
The prices don’t match the quality of the food. A supposed to be Michelin restaurant where the prices are certainly up to the Michelin standard, but i don’t understand how did they get the star for the food. Although the food was fresh & of high quality there was no unique taste, texture nor creativity. It was not bad food, but an average food that doesn’t not match its price and especially not the Michelin standard. On top of that one of the Servers asked us for tips, which ket us think they do the nice service for the tips and not the experience, then we said that the food wasn’t as expected so we didn’t feel like leaving tips for it, yet nobody came to ask why weren’t we satisfied. Something that a Michelin restaurant should do. UPDATE: Dear Marina Grande Team, thanks for your reply. As i said nobody asked us how is the food, and my review is not a 1 star review, but an honest 3 star review to what my experience was, you can change a dish but you can’t change the way you cook, so for my experience this was not up to the value. We were 2 individuals and therefore 2 separate reviews, we do not share 1 account but each of us felt to give an honest review of what should people like us expect. I still rate the Service with 4 stars and asking for tips did not affect the review that much, it was just the cherry on the cake, but i gave 4 stars for the Service because nobody asked how is the food, which in a Michelin restaurant is expected in 1-2 minutes after the food is served or after the first few bites.
What is a Michelin Guide restaurant? Is it a lifestyle? A sticker on the door? Or just an imaginary rating standard? If it’s the latter, do we automatically start with 3–4 out of 5 points, or, on the contrary, do we judge with extra attention to detail? Let’s try to be rational, fair, and most importantly, sometimes rely on our own feelings. To begin with—yes, I recommend this restaurant. There were three of us. Normally, you need a reservation here, but even though we didn’t have one, and even though we arrived almost at closing time, they still kindly found us a table. Every dish was delicious. Yes, yes, I know—a Michelin Guide restaurant that knows how to cook pasta. Shocking, right? You may ask—why come here? After all, you can get tasty pasta at a nearby place for two or even three times cheaper. So what’s the difference? Here, every dish is a carefully designed creation. A painted composition. Every ingredient and spice complements the dish and creates a swirl of flavors, turning into something new. Something unique. Food: 5/5 The restaurant sits right by the sea, with fresh flowers on each table and a warm, subtle glow of light that allows the sunset to take center stage. Atmosphere: 5/5 The service was flawless—elegant table settings, prompt serving, genuinely attentive staff, and above all, a feeling of effortless comfort. They even let us carefully choose from all the teas available. Overall service: 5/5 Of course, you can find elements of this elsewhere, but rarely brought to such perfection. If you still don’t understand what a Michelin Guide restaurant really is—come here and see for yourself. P.S. We came straight after swimming at the beach, so I left the cushion on my seat wet. Sorry for not mentioning it at the time!
Amazing food and service was impeccable and the view, Wow. Must go to have dinner here at least once during your trip.
Bar Francese
Booked a table right on the edge — the light on the water turned pink and nobody at the table said a word for ten minutes.
Roovio
A historic café founded in 1845 by Giuseppe Francese, now run by the sixth generation of the family, located in an Art Nouveau building right on Piazza Duomo, facing the grand staircase leading to Amalfi's cathedral. It's the beating heart of Amalfi's café culture — best visited early morning or late afternoon for the liveliest atmosphere and freshest pastries. The house specialty is a lemon delight made with an original recipe from the 1970s, alongside sfogliatelle, babà, and citrus granitas. I
We had a very pleasant evening at Bar Francese. The atmosphere was elegant and enjoyable, and the service was attentive throughout the night. We especially appreciated the wine recommendation from our waiter—it was an excellent choice and paired well with our meal. While the pasta was good, we have had better versions of similar dishes elsewhere in Italy. The bread served with the meal was also a bit below the standard we have come to expect in Italy. That said, the warm service, great wine, and wonderful ambiance made for a lovely experience overall.
Very touristy. Catches you as you enter the square. Food extremely average to poor. One ordered scrambled eggs and bacon and the eggs were super dry. Very little bacon. Other person ordered omlette & half a dry omlette came out. Service not very good. They specifically ask for tips at the end which seems rude. Probably fine for a cute drink or coffee in the square overlooking the cathedral but I wouldn't recommend eating here.
This was an incredible meal, the experience sitting outside in front of the Duomo. The service was top-notch and everything that we had was incredibly good! The best meal we’ve had on the Amalfi coast!
We came here in the pouring rain and were greeted with smiles and warm tea and coffee. The pastries were delicious and the staff was very welcoming. The rain persisted, so I asked for suggestions on where to buy an umbrella.. the sweet woman called her friend, who owns a shop and her friend delivered the umbrellas. What a kind gesture! We are very grateful!
Not only was the service superb, everything we tried was absolutely delicious, hot and had great flavors and came out so quick, but the views and people watching were fantastic. After 15 days all over Italy this place was spectacular.
Path of the Gods (Sentiero degli Dei) - Praiano
Started early to beat the heat and it was the right call. The Mediterranean was basically glowing below us the whole way.
Roovio
One of Italy's most scenic hikes, running along cliffs above the coastline with Mediterranean views the whole way. Trail typically starts in Bomerano (Agerola) and ends in Nocelle, above Positano. Best done early morning before the heat and crowds hit — wear real hiking shoes, not sandals.
🌄 Review: Perth of Gods Hiking Trail – A Slice of Heaven on Earth If you’re anywhere near this part of town, do yourself a favor and stop by the Perth of Gods hiking trail. It’s nothing short of breathtaking. The trail winds through nature’s finest work, offering panoramic views that feel almost divine—hence the name! Every step reveals a new vantage point more stunning than the last. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or just looking for a peaceful escape, this trail delivers serenity, beauty, and a touch of magic. The air is crisp, the path well-marked, and the scenery? Absolutely unforgettable. Perfect for sunrise treks, photo ops, or simply soaking in the grandeur of the landscape. Perth of Gods is a must-visit gem that will leave you in awe.
Amazing views and an awesome experience! Very challenging hike - plan on using your hands occasionally!
The stairs are no joke. This is not a hike for kids or anyone with any physical limitations. At parts the stairs can be uneven, rocky, steep without hand rails. However, if you’re in decent shape and want a slight challenge, this is a BEAUTIFUL hike. There is a water station at the top of the climb before you start going across the ridge line. From Praiano to the top, we passed maybe 3 people. The ridge line was more crowded because there are multiple entrances and tour guides take people up in a shuttle, hop off at the ridge line and do a short hike to see the views. Stop in Nocelle at Lemon Point for a lemon granita - so refreshing after a hike. From there it’s all downhill (stairs) to Positano. Also go in the morning, the cliffs provide shade from the sun for most of the climb.
JFDI. What a beautiful walk and such a perfect way of seeing the gorgeous coastline. Praiano up to the monastery was easy, beyond to the trail was interesting, but once we worked out the paint marks on the stones it was obvious!! The main path to Nocelle was nice and flat. You have to do this.
Incredibly beautiful trail we’ve enjoyed a number of times over the years. We recommend the upper loop. Bring plenty of water, and a picnic.
Amalfi
The striped cathedral facade is more dramatic in person. Grabbed a granita in the piazza after — needed it.
Roovio
Once a powerful medieval maritime republic, now the namesake town of the whole coastline — Amalfi's central Piazza Duomo is home to the striped, Arab-Norman-Gothic-Baroque cathedral dedicated to Saint Andrew, with an imposing staircase leading up to it. The town itself is compact and walkable, with narrow alleys, lemon shops, and pastry stops radiating from the main square. Reviews are mixed on crowding — the town's main square doubles as the meeting point for most of the coast's boat and bus tr
Amalfi Historical Garden - Lemon Farm
Didn't expect to care this much about lemons. The tasting at the end explained why it's basically the local religion.
Roovio
A family-owned and operated organic lemon farm with cascading terraced citrus gardens overlooking the village of Amalfi and the sea, run by the fourth generation of the same family. The vertical terrace farming here — where wooden poles support heavy lemon branches cascading down each level to the valley below — is a hard-to-preserve traditional method, and the garden also houses a small Museum of the Peasant Civilization with original farming tools. Small-group tours end in a tasting of homemad
Although the climb up to the garden was a bit strenuous, the effort was worth it for the combination of Giovanna’s knowledgeable explanation of lemon cultivation, the beautiful views of Amalfi and the sea below, and the delicious light lunch on the terrace that included local vegetables, cheeses, wine, and limoncello. Overall, it was a wonderful experience for my whole family.
We experienced a truly unforgettable day, surrounded by the peace and vibrant scents of a stunning lemon farm. It all began with a guided tour of the farm: a relaxing walk among century-old trees, during which we were passionately told about the history of the place, the cultivation techniques, and the sustainable philosophy that brings this little corner of paradise to life. After the tour, we gathered in the garden for a lunch that turned out to be a real celebration of local flavors. The tables, set among blooming lemon trees, created an atmosphere that was both bucolic and refined. Every dish was prepared with great attention to detail, using the freshest ingredients and recipes that honored tradition with a creative twist. To accompany the meal, we enjoyed a carefully curated selection of local wines, each glass perfectly paired with the specialties it accompanied, enhancing every flavor. From crisp, aromatic whites to more mid-bodied reds, every sip told the story of the land and completed the gastronomic experience in perfect harmony. The staff was impeccable, friendly, knowledgeable, and always attentive to making every moment special. A full sensory experience that beautifully combines nature, culture, wine, and cuisine in perfect balance. Highly recommended for anyone seeking authenticity, quality, and a truly unique atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back and we can’t wait!
This experience was a highlight for sure! High up the hillside, with unparalleled views of the coast below and shaded by old lemon trees, Giovanna’s tour takes you into her home and family history while she shares her extensive knowledge of all things lemon and Amalfi. Plus the tour ends with homemade lemon cake, lemonade and limoncello - the best you’ll taste on your trip! It’s worth the climb!
Giovanna was such an amazing and down to earth tour guide. Being able to visit her family farm, learn about the different varieties of lemons and oranges, and even taste lemon juice, limoncello, and her mother’s lemon cake was an experience I won’t forget!
This tour was one of the highlights of my trip to Amalfi - Giovanna was so knowledgeable about the history and science behind what their farm does! I always appreciate a fun learning experience, but when you throw in some adorable cats and amazing food and drinks, it really added so much enjoyment to my trip and appreciation for the entire area - definitely a must-do if you’re in the area!!
Ravello
The "Terrace of Infinity" is not an exaggeration — it's just you and the entire coastline.
Roovio
A hilltop town perched high above the Amalfi Coast, quieter and more elevated than Positano or Amalfi below — no beach, but sweeping views that feel almost god-like. Home to Villa Rufolo, a famous 13th-century villa with beautifully maintained gardens, and Villa Cimbrone, whose Terrace of Infinity is one of the most iconic viewpoints on the entire coast. Shops here are run by local artists and craftsmen rather than mass-produced souvenir sellers, a refreshing change from Positano and Amalfi. A l
Casa Orrico - Blue Grotto
Had to transfer to a tiny rowboat to actually get inside the grotto, felt silly for about ten seconds and then the light hit the water and I stopped caring.
Roovio
A charming villa set within a 12,000-square-meter garden near the famous Blue Grotto in Anacapri, with traditional Caprese architecture — white columns, walls, and domes blending into the landscape. Guests consistently praise the family atmosphere, with hosts Maria and Aurelio going out of their way to help, plus breathtaking sunsets from the balcony or the upstairs lounge. It's on the quieter side of the island, away from the main tourist crush, making it feel like a secluded, romantic retreat
Casa Orrico is a paradise. We enjoyed the family atmosphere and privacy. The villas are located outside of the center of Anacapri. Our host, Francesco, gave us the best dining recommendations and resources to enjoy the island. We didn't want to be in the center of the city we wanted to be part of the paradise. We cannot wait to return in the future. The rooms open to a view of the world with cloudless skies and the sounds of nature. THANK YOU for making our honeymoon memorable!!
BUYER BEWARE!! Not as advertised! Positives: The view is absolutely stunning. Secluded, peaceful place away from the crowds. The place is family owned and everyone is so nice. They helped with luggage and transportation. They were available for questions and concerns. Negatives: This is not a private villa. This is a bed and breakfast. You have a room next to other guests and a shared terrace space. The rooms are that of a bed and breakfast. The power kept going on and off throughout the day. The air conditioner did not work in our room. Our room was infested with ANTS! Not a few ants, but hundreds crawling in the bed and all over us throughout the night. Suitcase was infested with them. They tried to blame the ants on perfume or food in the room of which we had neither. The reality was that there were already ant traps in the room prior to our arrival. On top of all that, it was near impossible to get a taxi to go anywhere. If you want to go somewhere to disappear and don’t mind a dorm room setting with no privacy, this is for you. Very overpriced!
The Best Villa. I was on 3 weeks trip to Europe and this villa was the place located between great natural beauty and has the best host for all kind of assistance.
Had a very relaxing and comfortable stay.. our host Francesco was very friendly and made us feel at home..would love to visit again
Best stay you can get in the island.

Sailing back as the coast turned gold was somehow better than the grotto itself.
